Hi, my name is Jackie Fraser. I am priviledged to be the Art Specialist at GCS. I have been involved with the school for the last 10 years. Both of my boys have attended GCS and I have loved being a part of this wonderful school family as a parent and faculty. I have my MA in Psychology, but started out as an Art major at Cal State Long Beach. I am excited to be, once again, immersed in the study of Art and the fun and freedom of creativity along with my students.
Here at Grace we are implementing the Meet the Masters Art Enrichment Programe- for the elementary grades Pre-K through 5th. This year students will be exposed to such Masters as Michaelangelo, Rousseau, Warhol, Hopper, Klimt, Martinez and Rockwell. Students will learn about the artists fascinating lives and famous works through a multi-media slide presentation, connecting the student to the artist. Techniques of each individual artist are then taught through worksheet packets, and finally the students are ready for the real fun of creating their own Master inspired art project. Each presentation and project is tapered to the students current grade level.
6th graders are required to take 1 quarter of art which lasts approximately 14 weeks, and meets twice a week. Students are exposed to the basic elements of art and study the work of modern artist Henri Matisse. Students are challenged to create their own Masterpiece using Matisse's distinct style and technique," painting with scissors". The final project is one that represents each student as a unique individual as a fearfully and wonderfully created child of God.
7th and 8th graders are offered art as an elective. Each session lasts approximately 9-14 weeks, depending the quarter it is taken, and meets twice a week. Students are exposed to a variety of artists and techniques. Exercises and projects reflect the principles they have learned.
I look forward to a year full of exciting new adventures and remarkable works inspired by your Masters of Art!
